Summer is in full force!! And while I love the snow-cone stands and pool Saturdays as much as the next gal, the humidity and freezing indoor temps during the week are a little less desirable. I always feel like restaurants and work places compete for “coldest building” during this extreme heat. And while I am thankful for air conditioning, sometimes the work place is just TOO COLD! On the days when I wear a sweater trying to be prepared, my coworkers inevitably want to sit outside in the sun for lunch… Leaving me, well, sweating….
But I’ve come a long way in the work place. Spoiler alert: I’m not a college intern. So I’ve learned a thing or two when it comes to dressing appropriately for the office in the summer. It all hinges on one keyword: layering. The best way to layer is with a GREAT blazer and Express has SO many of them! When I worked as an attorney in an office every single day, I kept a blazer on my desk chair and it was the best decision ever. I would throw it on if we were headed to an important meeting on a whim, or if I needed to impress a guest in the office. It’s also perfect for the cold office temperature issue. Now that’s a win/ win.
A neutral color, like gray, is perfect to leave in the office since it pairs well with almost everything. I treat my blazer much more like a “coat” rather than a “shirt” – i.e. I wear it with EVERYTHING. I can’t work if I’m too cold, y’all. No way. Also, I seriously think this blazer is olive green but it says it’s black? Mysteries of fashion…
Speaking of summer workwear can we please talk about these high-waisted linen pants? They are a dream. I bought them in white, tan, AND black because they are the perfect work pant. I love the lightweight linen and that they are super high-waisted. Plus the string can be tied tight or loose which is also ideal for the office after someone brings in a phenomenal catered lunch. I also love this bag which is a great knock off of this more expensive version.
Pairing simple tops like this blue and white one, with these pants and a great blazer is my quick and simple “go-to” office look that keeps me warm in the building, cool in the summer heat, and empowered at my desk! Who run the world? Girls! What’s your “go-to” summer work wear look? I’d love to hear! Thanks so much for reading and happy summer 🙂
