The moment our Charlottesville hostess-with-the-mostess, Martha, mentioned a polo match, I knew I had to go. I’d never been to one and the idea of seeing so many horses galloping around in a setting as beautiful as King’s Family Winery seemed too rare to pass up.
In the south, (the deep south) football is king. If you’ve ever been to the grove or the junction, you know that people take their tailgating very seriously. This was tailgating Charlottesville style. The polo match seemed like a combination of a southern tailgate and the Kentucky Derby, all set on a golf course. So…. amazing. haha There were hats, parasols, and the usual southern beer and chicken finger tailgating spread (which I have no problem with whatsoever) was replaced with cheese plates and wine.
It was a gorgeous sunny albeit warm day and the perfect finale to the wedding weekend.
