I am still in shock because all the old wives tales pointed to girl and I had convinced myself and David that it was a girl. It sounds so cliche, but we truly just wanted a healthy child. And as I get closer and closer to my due date, I understand why everyone says that. That being said I am overjoyed to be expecting a little boy and can’t wait for his arrival this spring.
This day was so special becuase it was my grandfather’s 90th birthday so a lot of my family got together at our family farm in Pickens, Mississippi. My grandfather grew up in this house and we still come here for family Christmases, Thanksgiving lunches, or random Saturdays. I have so many childhood memories here of playing in the hay, riding horses, eating watermelon, and swinging on the front porch 🙂 It was so special to find out the gender with my family in this spot!
We wrapped a piece of paper for Al (my grandfather) that said “Your 14th great grandchild” love Lauren and David. When he opened it with the rest of his presents he read it out loud to the family and everyone was so happy for us. Then I told everyone that we were also going to find out the gender!
Sara, my cousin, had the envelope with the “results” and went inside the farmhouse with pink and blue balloons. Once inside, she opened the envelope and clipped the pink or blue balloons onto Nilla! Then knocked on the door while we were all waiting in the front yard. We all got quiet and she opened the door to the sweetest pup, Nilla, who ran out with big BLUE balloons tied to her collar and the happiest Nilla smile. As if on que, she ran around David and I and looked up at us with her tail wagging. It was SUCH a surprise and SUCH an overwhelming moment of JOY that I will never forget.
I knew I wanted Nilla to be the one to tell us if we were having a boy or a girl because I always knew we would have to say goodbye to her. But to have her be a part of not only SO MANY happy memories but one of the MOST EXCITING and happiest moments of my life still brings me such joy and happiness. It was honestly such a perfect day and one I’m so thankful we got to have with family and Nilla!
Thank you so much for reading!
Lauren
