Happy Friday! This week was an uneventful one – which is great in my mind. I had two really long much-needed phone conversations with 2 of my best friends and it was refreshing. It does get so hard to keep up doesn’t it? The semester I was back from working at Disney World in college was the semester I had the worst grades – because I really appreciated the fact that all of my friends were all together in one place, and therefore said “yes” to anything social and “no” to a lot of study time. I think all your friends together in one place is what makes college so great.
Anyway, this weekend David is off and is going to visit one of his friends in Richmond Virginia. I completely forget that Richmond is only TWO hours from us, and Charlottesville (i.e. wineries) are only 3 and 1/2 – David and I have resolved to make it to both places WAY more often now that he has made it through his first year of residency at UNC.
I am so excited about Monday and leaving for the Dominican Republic with
Healing Waters! I can’t wait to meet the people of the village, spend time educating women about health and hygiene and set up water filtration systems. I know there are so many causes and charities out there, but this one really speaks to me because of the work they do. Can you imagine not having clean water? Our pipes were frozen this past winter leaving us without water for 2 days. I couldn’t believe just how much I used water – to brush my teeth, to cook anything, the toilets, Nilla’s water bowl, to bathe – so to be a part of such a meaningful cause for deserving people is really exciting. After law school I think I was a bit beaten down when it came to the idea of changing
the world. But I know on this trip I’m going to change
someone’s world. That’s something I can really get behind 100%. And let’s be honest, they will probably change my world more than I change theirs.
I hope you had a wonderful week and thank you so much for reading!
