I love fragrances. In fact, I spray perfume on before I go to bed because I like the scent so much. In college I used the glade plug in air freshner that was probably meant more for a home than a 12 by 12 dorm room. Still, it kept the smell of vanilla in the air. Years later I am still very into fragrances. Without a doubt, my favorite candle fragrance is Volcano, made by DPM Fragrance in Starkville, and clearly I am not alone. These candles have been picked up by specialty retail stores such as Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Francesca’s. DPM Fragrance also makes custom products for West Elm, Le Labo, and Urban Outfitters! They’ve been featured in magazines like Lucky, Southern Living, and Better Homes and Gardens. I love the fact that they are made in my hometown of Starkville, Mississippi!
It’s the first thing on my “must do” list when I’m back in Starkville – heading to Aspen Bay on Main Street to stock up on the 1/2 priced Capri Blue candles in the back of the store. Any candle without a lid or slightly unevenly poured (which really just adds character) is only $12! YES, PLEASE. Everyone loves them so much, they are the 4th fastest growing company in Mississippi. And I completely understand why – they smell phenomenal and look exquisite in the beautiful recycled glass jars.
It has been so fun to watch the company grow over the years. My Mom and I used to travel to their original store to hand cut soaps from the long blocks of scented soaps in the shop. Now I love walking into a store as far away as New York, seeing these pretty candles on display, and knowing we share the same hometown – Starkville, Mississippi.
