Have y’all heard of Kind bars? They are the really good all natural granola bars. When I was working at Duke I had one for a snack every single day because they taste amazing and were in the gift shop downstairs. Well every month KIND gives $10,000 to a deserving cause that is working to make the world “kinder” in some way and The Her Initiative is in the running! (Here is more info on how it works)
Right now we are in 4th and we need to be in 1st by the end of the month in order to win the $10,000! Pretty pretty please click here and vote for our cause! It takes two seconds and you would be literally changing the world.
In our small group at church we are talking about the book “when helping hurts.” In a nutshell it talks about how sometimes giving medical treatment or products/services to a third world community can do more harm than good. If no one is there to follow up on adverse effects after the patient receives treatment, or if those products or services put a small service provider out of business, it’s doing more harm than good. I think a good analogy is the “give a man to fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for life…” quote. Oh how true!
Healing waters is definitely a “teach a man to fish” business model. They teach leaders of the community how to run the water filtration systems and also have one employee from Healing Waters on the ground to oversee the project. The Her Initiative gives the purest of resources, to the most deserving women and children in the world. And you can give it to them from your desk, couch, bed, or car, just by clicking here. Let’s start the week on thankful note and help change the world with a click.
