David and I recently had our one year anniversary. To celebrate, we took a trip to Chicago! David is a cubs fan and his mother grew up here. I love the TWO Zara locations, deep dish pizza, and the Navy Pier. Plus, this is where we came after I called it quits early while clerking in the Virgin Islands so I could come back and hang out with David. Needless to say, my Chicago memories are very fond. Here are some of the highlights from our trip…
We ate breakfast at “The Doughnut Vault” – which recently received the title of best doughnuts in America. The long line proved the word had gotten out, but the TINY interior with a chandelier and ONE guy behind the counter blaring old school rap made the wait worth it. Oh, and the doughnuts were delicious too – and big.

The Art Institute of Chicago was a first for me and I loved seeing the famous dotted painting. It was so much bigger in real life than I had imagined…

Chicago plants tulips all around the city, and I love the way they are color coordinated. You’ll see a street of all yellow tulips, or pink and orange together, or all white, etc. It’s so pretty. Well played, Chicago.
We went to the Signature Room which is on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. It was such a good tip from a friend to do the Signature room versus the observatory (which is on the floor above the Signature room) since with the signature room you pay for one drink and get the view versus the observatory where you just pay for the view.
Getting our chocolate fix at Ghirardelli
I love the Navy Pier. We rented bikes, rode around, and also saw Godzilla in 3D in the IMAX Theatre.
We ended up using “airBnB” to find a place to stay and it worked out great. This was taken on our balcony.

Happy one year!
morning coffee and strawberry donuts to start off our final day in the city
The prettiest pink tulips right outside the Chicago Zoo Entrance
The zoo was one of my favorite places we went. I loved the monkeys and the “timone” like animals.
The redbuds were in full bloom all along the entrance.

we topped off the trip with a walk to the bean! Aka “the selfie capital of the world” – we of course did our part to carry on that name.
