With David and I in the middle of a move, and him starting a new job, I’d be lying if I said things haven’t been a wee bit stressful. I mean, I’ve met 100 new people this week with paint in my hair from painting our whole house. Just starting over and finding a new routine is can be a challenge for anyone. So here are my tips on how to unwind during a stressful time:
- Give thanks – no matter what, stopping to just be thankful for everything you have and focus on what matters in life is an immediate de-stresser. Through this move, I’ve been so thankful for family (who lets us live with them) and especially my in-laws, who come and help paint, as well as the pod company who moves everything for us. Hahah
- Watch movies that will bring a smile to your face. David and I have been watching old movies every night to unwind in my sister’s basement and laughter truly is a great de-stresser. Even a serious movie (we watched the Fugitive last night), can be a welcomed escape from the stresses of reality.
- Indulge with chocolate. My personal favorite way to unwind is indulging in chocolate. I won’t hesitate to admit that I’m so excited to live in a town that has a TCBY again – but I also am determined to have the self-control to not go on a TCBY binge. A great way to not skimp on the chocolate, still enjoy my sweet tooth, and feel guilt-free after snacking is with barkTHINS. This snacking chocolate helps me take a moment for myself and escape the stress of the day. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes. They have so many different flavors of dark chocolate, paired with yummy additions like pretzels, almonds, sea salt, and coconut. I’ve been eating these as a snack paired with coffee and they are a highlight of my day. Especially while cozied up in this sweater since my sister keeps it so cold in her house! I discovered barkTHIN at Walgreens and love how they come in a re-sealable bag – which has also been great for how mobile we’ve been these last few weeks! We actually finished the dark chocolate and pretzel bag last night while watching the Fugitive (see number two). Right now, they are having a 2 for $8 promotion on 4.7oz pouches at Walgreens, so be sure to stock up until July 29th.
- Take your dog for a walk. There’s a reason therapy dogs are able to go into hospitals to mingle with sick patients. They are a GREAT source of love and proven to relieve stress. I seriously don’t know what I’d do without my four-legged friend, Nilla. Thank goodness I picked her out 5 years ago over Skype when David held up different puppies one by one. If y’all have any de-stressing tips, I’d LOVE to hear them! Thanks so much for reading!
